so let me sit here and feel in these tags okay. watching this scene over this is thane at work doing what he did for years ever since he was a child he’s not even thane when you look at these pictures not the thane I know anyway not the thane I fell in love with and who called me his siha this is a trained machine an assassin as perfect as they can be and yet he’s still a dying man deep down but none of that gets in the way of his focus and it sort of mesmerizes me not his skill not his rurthlessness it’s the fact that the hanar crafted this and too often people see that as thane this is not thane this is what thane is not who he is it’s what the hanar made there’s a kind loving father lover and friend beneath this and no one has ever dared get to know him not since irikah even his son struggles to see beyond it but shepard gave him the time i gave him the time
reposting my own tags because anon asked me to.I always admired the way his expression and composure changed from his active engagement of conversations between him and Shep, showing both his tranquility, devotion, patience and genuine interest to their relationship and every sitting in Life Support to one of an assassin. The jet black non-existant, cool emotion of a killer set only to serve what his training bore in him was remarkable in this scene. It’s seen clearly in his eyes, and it’s kind of mesmerising..
Leading on from soullesshusk, he definitely has those two opposite ends of the scale, where Thane speaks of himself being such an infamous assassin with such calmness, giving you a mere false sense of security that you question how such a peaceful man could name all the different key points on his foes that they are most vulnerable and deliver those blows with such precision and lethal accuracy.
However, in this scene all I saw was his physical struggle. His composure, though mirroring any other job he had put his body through had faults, neither having a clear enough mind to concentrate on his foe, nor being physically adept to handle such a foe as Kai Leng. He was distracted with his inability to keep up with Leng, and therefore, his physical weakness faltered his ability to successfully fend off the quicker enemy, later leading to his fateful mistake and emitting his loss of the match.
It was at that point where he pitifully fired the shots of the gun at the cab as Leng got away that I think he finally admitted to the fact that he no longer was able to hold the title of the rumoured ‘top assassin’ of the galaxy. That his sickness had finally caught up with him, and that, even though it may wound the pride he kept so perfectly concealed alongside both his emotional and physical pain, that he needed to call on Shepard for help and allowed her to take over from there on.
After 30+ years of day in day out training being acclimatised to deal with each species as his enemy, he wouldn’t merely make such a mistake as being stabbed in such a dire area without foreseeing that to happen if it wasn’t for his disease.
so beautiful is breaking my heart. stop it *sobs*
Excuse me while I go cry in my corner and repeat my new mantra “he lived” over and over again.
